Europe’s bowl season: Dresden break through as Gold Diggers, Crocodiles and Aztecs celebrate

Four championship stories: Dresden’s perfect season, Seinäjoki’s long wait, Bristol’s repeat and Søllerød’s 34–14 Danish triumph.

The trophy does not read the script

A perfect season finally brought Dresden the result they wanted. Seinäjoki escaped another painful ending. Bristol made defending a championship look almost routine. Europe’s late-season bowls offered more than a list of winners: they showed the difference between controlling a season and surviving its final afternoon.

This roundup brings together the October 3 German and Danish finals and earlier September finals in Finland and Britain. These games were not all played on the same weekend.

Dresden: third time, different ending

Dresden Monarchs beat Potsdam Royals 27–19 at the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion, completing an unbeaten season and winning their second German title after 2021. It was their third consecutive final against Potsdam. Apparently, even a championship rerun can eventually acquire a new ending.

The GFL report credits an early Logan Mobelini interception and rushing touchdowns from Rocky Lombardi and Tofunmi Lala as Dresden built a 14–6 halftime lead. Potsdam fought back to 24–19, but Dresden finished the job. Lombardi was named MVP; the league reported 25,016 spectators.

The significance goes beyond revenge. Potsdam’s run of three titles from 2023 to 2025 ended against a team that sustained its standard from the regular season to the final. That is an argument for Dresden’s consistency, not proof that the Royals have suddenly forgotten how to play football.

Seinäjoki: no more consolation speeches

On September 12, Seinäjoki Crocodiles beat Porvoo Butchers 27–21 at Helsinki’s Bolt Arena for their first Finnish title since 2001. SAJL records 11 previous Maple Bowl defeats in the club’s history. There are only so many times “valuable experience” can be offered as a consolation prize.

Trailing 7–6 at halftime, Seinäjoki turned the game through Christopher Fowler’s rushing touchdown and Charles Akanno’s interception return for a score. Fowler, the MVP, also threw two touchdown passes to Alex Jämsén.

Porvoo still recovered an onside kick after cutting the deficit to six. The last drive reached Seinäjoki’s 27-yard line before four incomplete passes ended it. This was not a coronation on autopilot: the champions had to defend the trophy before they could lift it.

Bristol: the repeat built on more than offense

Bristol Aztecs retained the British title with a 49–10 win over Manchester Titans in Britbowl 38. BAFA’s report highlights interception-return touchdowns by Matheus Nudelman and Adam Woodward, alongside a 65-yard scoring run from MVP Josh Breece.

That combination matters. Manchester could not focus only on stopping Bristol’s attack when its own possessions were also producing Aztecs points. Among these four finals, Bristol delivered the clearest scoreboard statement; the German and Finnish champions had much less room to breathe.

Denmark: Gold Diggers finish the job

Søllerød Gold Diggers beat Copenhagen Towers 34–14 in Mermaid Bowl XXXVII on October 3. Both had arrived through tight semifinals: Towers beat Aalborg 20–14, while Gold Diggers overcame Triangle 28–24. Søllerød then made the final considerably less tense on the scoreboard.

The 20-point margin establishes a clear winner, but it does not explain every drive. Without a verified game report, we will not invent a decisive interception or an inspirational halftime speech. The result is listed as finished by Flashscore; DAFF’s official fixture widget was still missing the score when checked on October 5.

What these finals tell us

Our assessment: Dresden’s consistency, Seinäjoki’s late defensive stand and Bristol’s scoring defense are three different championship strengths. Final margins alone cannot rank their leagues. The useful question for next season is whether challengers can reproduce those strengths—not simply collect a more impressive set of preseason promises.
