Croatian HFFL preview: Split still own the throne, but the pack is noisy
Croatian League of American Football / HFFL has a clear early shape around Split Sea Wolves, Dubrovnik Sharks, Zagreb Patriots, with enough schedule left for the chasing pack to make a mess of everyone’s tidy predictions.
The quick read
The Croatian federation (HSAN / CAFA) organizes domestic American-football and flag-football competition in Croatia. Recent HFFL seasons have featured Croatian clubs plus regional guest teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina, with Split Sea Wolves winning the 2023 and 2024 finals. The current window is listed as Spring to summer, and Pigskin Europe has it marked as active. Translation: this is live enough to matter, and organised enough that we can argue about it properly. HSAN published 2025 HFFL participant announcements for Split Sea Wolves, Zagreb Patriots, Osijek Cannons, Banja Luka Rebels and Tuzla Saltminers; the Sportspress API lists a scheduled 2025 Tuzla vs Banja Luka match. No official 2026 schedule was published on HSAN at import time.
The race right now
The table gives the preview its first shape: Split Sea Wolves 9-1, Dubrovnik Sharks 8-2, Zagreb Patriots 7-3, Bjelovar Greenhorns 3-7. Early records are not destiny, but they are very good at making everyone below the line pretend they are not checking tiebreakers before breakfast.
Why it matters
The wider context matters because European football is never just one table. Travel, roster depth, imports, youth pipelines and federation admin all show up eventually, usually around the exact moment a coach would prefer they did not.
What to watch
What to watch next: whether the leaders can make the season boring, and whether the chase group has the good manners to refuse. Croatian League of American Football / HFFL has enough structure and story to deserve its own page, its own preview, and at least one sarcastic warning label.
