LPFA 2026 preview: Portugal’s compact league still found room for drama
Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Americano has a clear early shape around Lisboa Devils, Lisboa Navigators, Cascais Crusaders, with enough schedule left for the chasing pack to make a mess of everyone’s tidy predictions.
The quick read
Portugal’s top American football league, tracked from LPFA XIII (2023) through the current LPFA XVI season with official FPFA fixtures, results, playoffs/finals and replay links where available. The current window is listed as February–June historical seasons; 2026 season in progress, and Pigskin Europe has it marked as active. Translation: this is live enough to matter, and organised enough that we can argue about it properly. LPFA 2023–2026 schedules/results are imported from official FPFA competition pages; 2026 LPFA XVI includes current playoff/final information.
The race right now
The table gives the preview its first shape: Lisboa Devils 8-0 225:53, Lisboa Navigators 5-2 200:123, Cascais Crusaders 5-3 229:156, Braga Warriors 3-4 110:102. Early records are not destiny, but they are very good at making everyone below the line pretend they are not checking tiebreakers before breakfast.
Why it matters
The wider context matters because European football is never just one table. Travel, roster depth, imports, youth pipelines and federation admin all show up eventually, usually around the exact moment a coach would prefer they did not.
What to watch
What to watch next: whether the leaders can make the season boring, and whether the chase group has the good manners to refuse. Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Americano has enough structure and story to deserve its own page, its own preview, and at least one sarcastic warning label.
