Devils stay perfect, but Portugal’s chase pack just got louder

Portugal has the cleanest leader in Pigskin Europe’s current data: Lisboa Devils are 6-0, have scored 185 points and have allowed only 26. Their latest listed result, a 16-7 win over Braga Warriors on 2 May, was not their biggest margin of the season, but it may be one of the more useful ones. A perfect team that can win without turning every game into a blowout is harder to project against, because it has already shown it can handle a tighter script.

The table behind them changed in a more dramatic way. Cascais Crusaders beat Lisboa Navigators 39-34 on the same weekend, handing the Navigators their first loss and pulling Cascais to 4-2. That result matters because it creates a genuine question below the Devils: are the Navigators still the clear second team, or has Cascais moved close enough to make the bracket uncomfortable? The raw standings still place Navigators second at 5-1, but Cascais now own the most recent head-to-head statement between the two.

Braga sit fourth at 3-3 with a positive point differential, which keeps them relevant but also shows the gap to the top three. Lisboa Bulldogs are 2-4, Salgueiros Renegades 1-5 and Maia Mutts 0-6, so the upper half has started to separate from the lower half. If the final rounds follow the current table, the most important question is not whether Devils are a contender; it is whether anyone can force them away from the dominant profile they have built through six games.

The possible playoff scenarios are straightforward. A Devils stumble would reopen the top seed conversation, but the current numbers make that a low-probability assumption rather than a forecast. The more realistic pressure point is second and third: Navigators have the better record, Cascais have the fresh head-to-head win, and any rematch or tiebreaker-style meeting would be one of Portugal’s most meaningful games of the year.
